Ceiling Treatment

I am on the constant look-out for inexpensive and easy DIY ways to infuse architectural detail into my 1973 colonial house. I saw this ceiling treatment done by Kelley Interior Design. It would look great in my living room which has a long, lackluster ceiling. Hmmm, I have think about if I could pull it off. It would take a lot of painters tape and lots of overhead painting to get it right.

Here is my living room ceiling now. Thoughts, is it worth it? (sorry for the terrible iphone pics)

Hall Lighting

I have been debating with myself for sometime over which flush mounted ceiling lights should replace my ugly 80's style brass fixtures in my upstairs hallway. I was hoping to find an inexpensive fixture from Home Depot or Lowes, but just could't find the right one. I finally chose the Heath from Restoration Hardware. It's perfect. I tried to time their arrival for when my favorite electrician (my Dad) was in town but ended up having to install them myself. I was very impressed with my handiness.

New Painting

My mother-in-law saw this painting at an art show in North Carolina while on vacation and couldn't believe how similar it looked to my son and daughter.  Thankfully she bought it as a gift for my husband's birthday! When I first saw it I thought she had it commissioned off of photos we had taken a year ago by a professional photographer. I just love it! It was always my favorite photo and the painting is just beautiful. The painting is titled "Friends For Now" which absolutely captures Rory and CJ's tumultuous relationship.

Coastal Masculine Retreat

My parents are looking to update their den with a coastal flair to match the rest of their North Carolina home. The room is also used as a spare guest room during the holidays so it had to include a pullout sofa. I am most excited about the wall trim we plan to install as an accent wall to add character. If the process isn't too difficult I would love to put the trim in my stairwell.

My parents were looking for some paintings of the North Carolina marshes - their new locale. I found some great oils on Etsy, check them out.

Coastal Style At It's Best

I found some inspirational images from projects done by Bella Mancini Design that I just love.

Putting the stone on the fireplace only on the bottom is a great way to get the look without the expense of going all the way to the ceiling.

My temporary fix for our den was to paint the brick, but I would love to upgrade our built-ins with doors to hide toys and change the brick to stone.

Although, it has come a long way from this when we first moved in...
